Governor urges BRO to keep road network intact in Arunachal
ITANAGAR, May 23: Arunachal Pradesh Governor J P Rajkhowa today urged the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to maintain road communication in the state at any cost.
The Governor's observation came when BRO's Additional Director General (East) Dr S S Porwal called on him at Raj Bhawan here and discussed roads under the BRO and their progress in the state, a press release informed.
The Governor emphasised that in the interest of the people of the frontier state and nation, road communication must be maintained at all cost.
He suggested that the BRO must have pre-deployment of their resources, both men and machines.
Sharing his experience at Lumla in Tawang district, the governor stressed that BRO must maintain the border roads on regular basis and must be taken up on top priority.
He said that many organisations have submitted memoranda for maintenance of some strategic roads by the BRO.
Rajkhowa advised the BRO official to take up at their level also, while the state government takes up with the concerned ministries.
He pointed that many roads in the state were damaged due to lack or improper construction of drains.
"The slopes near the roads are very steep, resulting in landslides, which in turn block the road communication. At times, it is found that retention walls are not constructed in proper and scientific manner," the governor pointed out.
He suggested for sky bridge or tunnelling in the landslide zones areas.
The governor also enquired about the Siku Bridge near Mebo in East Siang district to which the ADG informed that the work is sanctioned and permanent solution would be there before monsoon this year.
Briefing the Governor on the progress of BRO road, the ADG informed that 40 per cent of works in the state were completed and all the present projects would be implemented by 2019.
Sharing his finding in the state, ADG informed that many of the landslides have resulted from blockage of natural drainage, the release added. PTI
Pul meets relatives of accident victims, calls for widening of roads
KALAKTANG, May 23: Chief Minister Kalikho Pul on Monday met the relatives of the May 22 road accident victims.
On Sunday, a pickup vehicle fell into a gorge from a high cliff near Betchiling village killing 15 people.
Pul walked down a hill to meet the bereaved family members who were preparing funeral pyres for the cremation of the dead. The bodies of the victim had been retrieved from the cliff and were assembled at the funeral site.
“Though a tragedy, the incident should serve as reminder for all of us to be careful with our lives,” said the Chief Minister.
Also revealing his findings from the accident scene – a spot 11-km from Kalaktang town, the Chief Minister said that whenever road blockade caused by landslides are cleared, it should be wide enough for easy maneuver. It is a bad practice to clear roads with such narrow passage that makes the spot accident prone, said the CM and urged the administration to start immediate work for widening of the narrow stretch.
The CM attended to all the relatives of the dead and shared their grief and sadness. The Chief Minister handed over cheques of Rs. 4 lakhs to each victim’s family and assured additional Rs. 2 lakhs from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to be handed over through the district administration. For the one injured, the CM had earlier announced Rs. 2 lakhs. Later, it was revealed that the injured person had succumbed to her injuries in a Guwahati hospital. As ex-gratia relief, the Chief Minister handed over an additional Rs. 2 lakhs to the next of the kin and assured another Rs 2 lakhs from CM relief fund.
CM also donated Rs. 5 lakhs through his personal sources towards the contribution for the last funeral rites.
As mark of respect, two-minute’s silence was observed in honour of the dead.
Power Minister TN Thongdok, RWD Minister Kumar Waii, Mechuka MLA Pasang D Sona, Seppa East MLA, Tapuk Taku, Chayang Tajo MLA Karya Bagang, Bomdila MLA Japu Deru and PPA President Kahfa Bengia accompanied the Chief Minister during the visit.
Tawang organizations seek independent probe
ITANAGAR, May 23: Several organizations from Tawang have come together to send a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner demanding independent judicial inquiry into the May 2 police firing which claimed two lives.
302 Action committee, formed after the May 2 Tawang firing has demanded an independent judicial enquiry by Supreme Court or High Court. The organization said that they don’t have faith in the magisterial enquiry committee constituted by the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh as it asked why the guilty have not been punished.
We demand investigation into the killings that has happened due to a series of events starting from April 26 when for the first time, Lama Lobsang Gyatso alias Anna Lama was arrested, it said.
It further said that an employee of the special branch identified as Dorjee Khandu alias Robert, who allegedly fired with heavy firearm at the innocent public has to be punished as per law.
The organisation wanted to know why the DSP and DC have not been suspended as yet. It further wanted to know why there has been an inordinate delay in the registration of the case.
All Tawang Youth Association (ATYA) has demanded CBI inquiry into the Tawang police firing that claimed two lives on May 2 as well as independent enquiry by Supreme Court or High Court.
The organization further demanded immediate suspension of DC, DSP, OC, IO, magistrate on duty
The demands came following a meeting held today at Tawang where representatives from various organizations took part, President ATYA Tenzin Dhargey informed.
302 Action Committee as well as ATYO also demanded immediate explanation from the concern authority on delay of the registration of the case.
The organization said that there should not be manipulation of post mortem report. The organizations further demanded for commemorative inscription for Nyima Wangdi and Tsering Tempa, who were killed on May 2 at suitable place at Tawang region and disclosure of the names of the police personnel who were present at the police station on May 2 between 7AM to 4PM as well as the names of the police personnel to whom arms and ammunition were issued.
BJP’s highhandedness exposed: APCC
ITANAGAR, May 23: Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) said that State BJP president Tapir Gao’s recent statement on BJP forming government in Arunachal Pradesh has exposed the highhandedness of the saffron party.
APCC’s statement came after Gao on Saturday claimed that BJP would soon form government in the State.
The party also expressed surprise over ruling PPA party’s stoic silence even after the Gao’s statement.
APCC still claims BJP was behind in toppling the Nabam Tuki government which the saffron party denies. APCC has demanded a clarification from Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Gao’s statement.
The Congress party also strongly condemned the statement of Union Minister Arun Jaitley, who commented against the Gandhi family while interacting with the Press in Delhi.
Further taking a dig at the union minister, the APCC said that BJP has drawn blank in Tamil Nadu and Puducharry in the just concluded Assembly Elections while in Kerala and West Bengal the saffron party got only 1 and 3 seats respectively.
Hundreds turn up to donate for Seppa’s fire victims

ITANAGAR, May 23: Hundreds of people from all walks of life turned up on first day of donation camp jointly set up by East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) and Nyishi Elite Society (NES), East Kameng district Unit at Akashdeep to raise fund for fire victims of Seppa. Rupees seven lakhs, eighty three thousand have been collected on first day of the camp.
At least, 16 dwelling houses were gutted down in massive fire accident that broke out recently. The second day fund raising camp would be set up at Takar Complex Naharlagun on Tuesday and it will wrap up on May 25th at Seppa. The generous contributors were presented a ‘certificate of generosity’ duly signed by both EKSWCO and EK NES Unit to honour the doners.
Joining the funding raising camp, 11th West Seppa MLA Mama Natung contributed Rs 50000/ on spot and announced Rs 3 lakh more for Seppa fire victims. In a separate announcement, he also announced rupees two lakh for Bana fire victims which occurred week ago. The fund would be handed over to EKSWCO and NES district unit, Natung informed. Expressing solidarity with fire victims, Natung requested the state government to establish fire station in each circle. He also raised concerns at increasing rate of fire accidents in several places. MLA Natung further made fervent appeal to people to come forward to contribute on humanitarian ground for fire victims.
Parliamentary Secretary WRD cum Dambuk MLA Gum Tayeng also joined the donation camp and contributed some amount while expressing solidarity to fire victims.
Well-Known entrepreneur Haa Tatu donated rupees two lakhs in fund raising event. Many people also contributed relief materials during the camp. The amount generated from donation camp will be handed over to EKSWCO Chairman. Overwhelmed by numbers of contributors turned up, EKSWCO General Secretary Nikam Tallang and NES district Unit Secretary In charge Mara Kocho appreciated the people for their noble gesture.
“It was truly encouraging and inspiring that people made bee line to donate for fire victims cutting across communal and regional line. We hope same response on Tuesday at Takar Complex” said Suraj Tayem, the event manager.
NDRF disaster training in East Siang concludes

PASIGHAT, May 23: The mass awareness camps on disaster management in East Siang district conducted by a 12th NDRF team concluded at Donyi-Polo community hall on Monday.
Inspector (NDRF) Chandrasekhar Yadav informed that a total of 12 companies of NDRF have been constituted and deployed in different parts of the country including companies of other paramilitary forces.
Stating that Arunachal Pradesh falls in earthquake prone zone, the NDRF officials urged the people to learn improved techniques to stay safe during disaster. They further suggested of disaster alarm system and evacuation plan in the offices and educational institutions.
The NDRF team led by Assistant Commandant, Deepak Kumar conducted demonstrations on rescue operation to be adopted during disaster and suggested for applying the improvised techniques.
Demonstrations on First Aid technique and safe evacuation techniques Cardio-Pulmonary Respiration (CPR) were done.
A film was also screened depicting how the NDRF dealt with major disasters that occurred in different places across the country. They also exhibited tools and instruments used in rescue operation and explained their application procedures.
The three-week long NDRF training was launched at Central School, Pasighat on May 9 and the team conducted a total 12 programmes during the period covering Pasighat, Mebo and Ruksin blocks.
The concluding programme was specifically for Adi Baane Kebang (Woman), wherein woman activists including President Yalem Burang and ZPM, Okom Yosung attended among others.
Doi urges villagers to be fore-runner in bio-diversity conservation
ITANAGAR, May 23: Former Minister Doi Ado exhorted the villagers to be the fore-runners in protecting nature and creating awareness amongst the public about the importance of maintaining right balance between man and nature.
He was addressing the International Day for Biological Diversity celebration at Doji organized by Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board, Itanagar.
Member Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh Biodiversity Board N Tam emphasized the need of conserving every species, focusing the role played by small insects in pollination, food grain production and in plant fruiting.
His speech also covered the issues to mitigate the sustainable utility of the bio-resource by the tribal community without posing harm to the nature.
He urged the BMC to play pivotal role in creating biodiversity awareness among the local communities.
DFO, Aalo Forest Division Nyali Ete while narrating his experience in the region, appealed to the village representative to join hand with the government agencies in conserving flora and fauna.
As a part of celebration, an awareness lecture series on the theme Mainstreaming Biodiversity; Sustaining People and their Livelihoods was conducted.
Resource person and Wildlife Biologist in the Department of Environment Forests Dr. B Bhatt presented a detailed about wildlife scenario of the Arunachal Pradesh and the role of every organism in food web.
He also spoke on the responsibility of the community in delivering the conserving ideologies.
Research Officer of the Board Dr. Kenjum Bagra spoke on the role of BMC in biodiversity governance. He also highlighted the Access and Benefit sharing mechanism citing it as the major sources of fund generation for the local community.
During the group discussion session, Advocate Kenbom Bagra narrated the role played by West Siang District Socio Culture and Economic Development Society in banning of destructive fishing activities in Aalo region of the district.
He appealed APBB to instruct the district administration to implement the Wildlife laws strictly.
ASM Dagli Doji also spoke on the occasion.
The village and panchayat representatives of the participating villages agreed work hand in hand on the issue concerning biodiversity.
All the speakers discouraged the use of insecticides, weedicides and other harmful chemicals in farming system.
More than 300 participants from 12 villages attended the programme.
Simai visits Old Kamlao village

JAIRAMPUR, May 23: MLA Laisam Simai accompanied by head of departments visited Old Kamlao village on Monday.
The MLA committed to fulfill the demands of village link road, irrigation channel, renovation of old school building and community hall, put up by the villagers.
Terming all the demands as genuine, he said village link road and irrigation channel has already been taken up but the other two will be considered in the next financial year.
Besides informing the various plans and programmes of the government, Simai asked the youths to be prepared for the coming recruitment rally of police and Eco-Task Force (under forest department).
‘Drugs abuse is the main hurdle that is preventing our youth for taking forward step’, Simai lamented. He asked the parents to be vigilant on their children’s activities.
Simai directed the HoDs to maintain complete transparency while dealing with the villagers.
The MLA sought the cooperation of each and every individual including the government staffs for the development of the region. He asked the HoDs to bridge the gap that exists between them and rural people. ‘Keep aside the political differences and focus on serving the rural people,’ he suggested.
Simai also introduced all the HoDs to the villagers and asked them to seek their help whenever any problem arises.
Manmao EAC LW Bapu said the Govt employees are here to serve the people. He asked the villagers to come forward and reveal the problems. Assuring help from the local administration, Bapu encouraged the villagers to benefit from the many schemes launched by the government.
PWD EE, CS Chowtang, Jairampur CDPO, N Kimsing, KVK Programme coordinator, Dr. N Kumar also reflected their views and assured all assistance for the development of the region.

Novin wins ‘Suurlili Nyishi Awaaz’ contest
ITANAGAR, May 23: Tana Novin was declared winner of the ‘Suurlili Nyishi Awaaz’ while Techi Yaso and Lishi Tolu became the first and second runner up in the grand finale of the singing talent hunt held at Siddhartha Hall here on Sunday.
The winner walked away with cash award of Rs. 4, 20, 000 and automatically became a member of Ejeng Dudak Musical Band. He was also awarded with a set of musical instruments.
The first and second runners up were awarded cash prizes of Rs 2,80,000 and Rs 2,00,000 respectively.
Consolation prizes of Rs 50,000 each was awarded to Lingdum Lonia and Khyoda Mema.
All the winners were also given certificates along with trophies.
Chief Minister Kalikho Pul, who was also present to witness the programme, underlined the need of organizing such programmes to identify latent talents.
Emphasizing on the importance of extra-curricular activities along with formal education, he exhorted the youth of the State to make good use of such platform to expose their hidden talents.
Consoling those, who could not make it to grand finale and win prizes, not to lose heart as winning and losing are part and parcel of any competition.
He announced for repair and maintenance of the Nyikum Niya Hall, Nirjuli.

Traffic advisory
ITANAGAR, May 23: Movement of traffic has been restricted via Abotani colony road, Itanagar until May 30 in view of the construction of CC road to the bridge point.
However, keeping in mind the impending traffic congestion that is likely during peak hours, one-way traffic will be allowed to ply on the sector road from NH-415 towards Niti Vihar during 8 am to 7 pm only.

Expired medicines seized
ITANAGAR, May 23: A huge quantities of expired medicines were seized from a pharmacy at Jang, Tawang during a routine inspection.
The Drugs Inspector Nangbia Tapin who conducted the routine inspection in three districts of East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang, have found the expired drugs, most of which were vital and life saving, from the sales counter of M/s Life Line Medical Hall at Jang under Tawang district.
The Inspector also found many discrepancies contravening the provisions of Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 & Rules in many of the retail chemist shops located in these three districts. He also found non-adherence to the Drugs Price Control order 2013, such as overcharging beyond the maximum retail price (MRP).
Meanwhile, Drugs Licensing Authority/Drugs Control Administration, Directorate of Health Services, has viewed the matter seriously and will issue show cause notice/directives to all the defaulters for immediate rectification, who do not comply with various provisions under Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 & Rules and Drugs Price Control Order.
EKSWCO condemns minor molestation incident
ITANAGAR, May 23: East Kameng Social Welfare and Cultural Organisation (EKSWCO) on Monday strongly condemned the alleged molestation incident of minor who allegedly committed suicide soon after.
It is alleged that minor was molested by her maternal uncle one Yuwa Bullet (30). Later minor allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself on May 19, 2016. The alleged accused had been reportedly arrested by police and he is under judicial remand in Jollang district jail. Terming the incident unfortunate, EKSWCO in a statement said that incident is highly condemnable and should be strongly condemned by all section of society.
The authority should take stern action against the culprit so that such incident is not repeated in future” EKSWCO added.
The district parental organisation further expressed its heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family and prayed almighty for her eternal peace.
AACS alleges Sushee Infra Ltd of poor quality TAH work
ITANAGAR, May 23: The members of Arunachal Anti-Corruption Sena (AACS) recently visited site of the various ongoing development projects under Sagalee circle. The team included central team of AACS and its Papum Pare district unit. They meet officials of Sushee Infrastructure Limited which is constructing the Trans-Arunachal highway (TAH) between Sagalee and Seppa.
AACS expressed concern over poor quality of work done by the contractors engaged by the Sushee. The Sena claimed that locals of Sagalee area led by Gaon Burahs have lodged several complaints over poor quality of work in recent past.
Furthermore Sena found that bridge of Pang river at Sagalee town are in feeble condition which is creating dangerous situation for the people residing nearby. They have called on Sushee Company to construct protection wall to save the bridge and warned that if anything untoward happens they will be held responsible. Sena also claimed that power department is running under zero maintenance.
AACS also urged state govt. to establish SBI branch with ATM facilities in Sagalee town for convenience of tourist. Team also appealed government officials to regularly present at the place of posting.
Health relief assistance sought
ITANAGAR, May 23: The All Arunachal Pradesh Unorganized Sector Labour Union (AAPUSLU) has appealed for implementing Chief Minister’s Health Relief Assistance for government registered workers of unorganized sector of various departments as well as private sectors.
Most of the labourers hailing from poor family engaged in private sector in the state even after getting themselves registered with Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board are being deprived of the various facilities offered by the board, it said in its appeal letter to the Chief Minister.

Forum seeks clarification from UD commissioner
ITANAGAR, May 23: Reiterating that four posts of UPO kept in waiting list by the Urban Development (UD) department is a violation to the Supreme Court judgment in Khyoda Sanjay Vs GoAP, the Arunachal Civil Engineers’ Aspirant Forum has sought clarification from the commissioner UD in this regard.
‘.. Waiting list is kept for a case when any post falls vacant after qualified candidates fail to turn up but in this case clear vacant post is kept for waiting list,’ its representation to the commissioner read.

ITANAGAR, May 23: All Itanagar Youth Welfare Association (AIYWA) has called for immediate action against the government land encroachers within Capital Complex.
In its letter to the chief minister, it pointed out colony roads are getting narrower because of the encroachments.
MLA expresses happiness over new Solung ground

PASIGHAT, May 23: Pasighat-East MLA, Kaling Moyong has expressed happiness over the donation of land for New Solung Ground by the villagers of Bogong. Moyong said the need for a bigger Solung ground at Upper Region of Pasighat was a long-felt demand of the community.
Appreciating the efforts of Bogong Banggo Kebang, Gaon Burahs, PRI leaders, students unions and other social organizations of the area for solving the problem in an amicable way, the MLA hoped that the new Solung ground would be beneficial for all communities to hold their cultural celebrations.
MLA Moyong, who is the Chairman of Core-Committee of CSFC (Golden Jubilee), has requested the Solung Celebration Committee-2016 to take up further development of the new Solung ground on war-footing.
Health and education on Govt priority list: Dr Beda
ITANAGAR, May 23: Reiterating the government’s prioritization of health and education in the developmental front, Secretary Planning, Tourism and IPR, Dr. Joram Beda urged for total commitment from all stakeholders.
He said this on Sunday during an interaction with the HoDs of Lower Subansiri district to take stock of the developments in the district.
While informing that the General Hospital Ziro has been adopted by the planning department, he assured to facilitate the hospital with better infrastructure. He also urged all the doctors and the health workers to give their best to improve the health indices of the district.
The Secretary also informed that a trauma centre is in consideration at Joram by the National Highway Authority owing to its strategic location.
Taking stock of the lighting system in the village, he directed representatives from APEDA to consider solar lighting and LED streetlights for the villages.

Association demands auto-mechanical department
ITANAGAR, May 23: The members of All Arunachal Unemployed Auto-Mechanical Engineers Association has called for setting up one parent auto-mechanical department under the government of Arunachal Pradesh.
The association has also decided to fight against illegal appointment in various govt departments and also raise awareness about unemployment problems faced by the auto-mechanical unemployed engineers.
ASF to promote Sociology
ITANAGAR, May 23: Arunachal Sociological Forum in its second conference held in Department of Sociology, Rajiv Gandhi University recently has resolved among others to promote the subject of Sociology in the schools and colleges of Arunachal Pradesh.
The ASF will initiate all measures to generate public awareness about Sociology and the importance of the subject, the meeting resolved.

ITANAGAR, May 23: Members of Arunachal Green Environment Mission (AGEM) organized a mass tree plantation at Govt Primary School and Christian Revival Church, Lenka on Sunday. Officials from Daflagarh forest range under Banderdewa Forest Division also participated in the programme.

Tarh Welfare Society expresses our hearty gratitude to the Chief Minister Khaliko Pulji who had visited the bereaved family of Tarh Kama at his residence, Jullang.
His daughter nine year old Lt. Miss Tarh Peeju of Alphabet Public School Nirjuli was drowned in the Pachin River. She saved her cousin and a friend who were being swept away by Pachin River while trying to cross the swollen current of the River water on 19 May 2016 at around 3.30 PM at Jullang.
While consoling the bereaved family and paying floral tribute to the departed little brave soul who lost her precious life in the incident, Chief Minister, instantly assured to grant relief packages for the family from the state Govt to honour the brave act of Lt. Miss Tarh Peeju which includes; free education to one of the child of Tarh Kama & Tarh Yaku, to give regular state govt employment to one of the family members and to construct a R.C.C bridge over Pachin River at Daath (Jullang) & to dedicate it in the name of Lt. Miss Tarh Peeju.
With the assurance from the Chief Minister to construct a permanent R.C.C Bridge over Pachin River at Jullang, the long pending wishes of Jullang Valley villagers and general public will be fulfilled and in fact the Chief Minister Khaliko Pul can rightly be called the people’s Chief Minister. This bridge on completion will check such unfortunate incidents in near future and solve the problems being faced by the poor villagers especially in this rainy season since last so many years on.

What are you doing to protect land?
Dear Editor,
I as a student and a tribal of Arunachal Pradesh ask our Chief Minister and council
of ministers and the leaders of APSU as to why no action is being taken regarding
the Chakma-
Our tribal people are suffering at Lohit. What will you all do if someone enters your house forcefully and take away your home and your land?
I m not against granting citizenship to Chakma and Hajong people but we cannot give our land to them. What are you all doing to protect our own people?
